OUR STORY

About Peace River Publisher

Peace River Publisher is a play on our family names. Pace, an old Virginia name, comes from the Latin word for peace. Reed means “reed” and echoes real rivers: a reedy red river in England, the red and reedy rivers in the United States, and the Peace River in western Canada.

We are a family of storytellers with roots stretching across the American story, from early settlements to immigration, from complex Southern histories to the long journey west. Peace River Publisher carries this layered heritage forward with books that speak to quiet strength and honest reflection.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

DOROTHY REED PACE

Dorothy Reed Pace was born at the meeting point of the greatest generation and the baby boomers, and has spent a lifetime crossing the American story from the West Coast to the South and back toward the western sunshine she loves. Married to a Vitenam veteran, she is a family historian at heart, drawn to the quiet strength found in ordinary lives. She wrote Before We Close Our Eyes for anyone whose nights feel long, in the certainty that morning light always returns.

COMING MID-2027

Mary Louise has a decision to make. At 45 years old, she is a woman who has never lived for herself. She spent 25 years caregiving her invalid mother and working at a job where she was virtually unseen.
She has never taken a risk; she has never been asked what she wants. She has been exhausted for so long she does not recognize she is exhausted. Now her mother is gone, and her job has been made redundant. So, when a family member asks, “What do you want to do!” she hesitates.
This book covers the next two years of Mary Louise’s life, making one decision at a time and one friend at a time.
Join us in 2027 and watch Mary Louise step off the porch and into a life of her own.
